CQ5 is a page-centric content management system from the stables of Adobe (originally created by Day software until adobe acquired it). It allows content authors to edit content on web pages using a rich extJS interface. CQ5 is based on sling framework and uses CRX a JCR implementation as data store.

The software is bundled as a JAR file which can be run in two modes author and publish. The content authors edit content in the author mode and publish it through workflows which is replicated in the publish mode. It is the publish mode that the world sees.

Development is carried out using CRXDE a Eclipse plugin or a browser based CRXDE Lite. Developers create component with interfaces for the content to be edited, the authors then use these components to create web pages.

CQ5 allows authors to manage the website through standard web browsers . Authors can drag and drop components onto pages; click on them to edit them . CQ5 comes with a lot of great out of box (OOTB) components.
